Maintenance and FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions

Q1. How long does the epoxy flake flooring process take? Most jobs take three days. Day 1 is surface preparation, repairs and cleaning. Day 2 is when we apply the epoxy base coats and decorative flakes. Day 3 is the final clear coat, which seals and protects the floor. Larger or heavily damaged areas may take longer.

Q2. How soon can I walk on my new floor? You can usually walk on it after 24 hours, but it’s best to wait 48 hours for light foot traffic if possible.

Q3. When can I park cars or move heavy items back onto the floor? Wait at least 7 days before parking vehicles or placing heavy equipment or furniture. This gives the coating time to cure for maximum strength.

Q4. Will my epoxy floor fade or go yellow over time? We use UV-stable products designed for Australian conditions.

Q5. Can you install epoxy over old or damaged concrete? Yes, in most cases. We’ll repair cracks, fill holes and grind the surface so the new coating bonds properly. If your concrete has major structural damage or moisture issues, we’ll discuss the best options during your free quote.

Q6. What can I do to get ready for installation? Please clear the area of all furniture, vehicles and stored items before we arrive. If there are any fixtures or fittings that can’t be moved, let us know so we can plan around them. We also recommend ensuring pets and children are kept clear of the work area during the installation process.

Q7. Is epoxy flooring slippery? Standard epoxy has a smooth finish. We can add a non-slip additive for areas where extra grip is needed, such as pool surrounds, outdoor patios, or high-traffic commercial floors.

Q8. How do I clean and maintain my epoxy floor? Epoxy is low-maintenance. A soft broom or mop with mild detergent is all you need. Avoid harsh chemicals, abrasive tools or high-pressure washing directly on the surface. We’ll provide a care guide after your job is complete.

Q9. What areas do you service? We’re based in Mackay and work across Sarina, the Whitsundays and the Bowen Basin. If you’re outside this area, get in touch, we may still be able to help.

Q10. How much does it cost? Pricing depends on the size of the job, the condition of the concrete and your chosen finish. We provide free, no-obligation quotes so you know exactly what’s included before we start.

Essential Epoxy Flake Floor Maintenance Guide

At Dunn Right Industries we understand that maintaining the pristine beauty of your epoxy flake flooring is essential to preserving its durability and enhancing its longevity. That's why we're thrilled to share our expert maintenance and cleaning recommendations with you.

  1. Regular Sweeping: Sweep the floor regularly to remove dirt, dust, and debris. This prevents scratching and keeps the surface clean.
  2. Mopping: Use a mild detergent and warm water to mop the floor as needed. Avoid harsh chemicals that can damage the epoxy coating.
  3. Spill Cleanup: Clean up spills promptly to prevent staining. Use a soft cloth or mop to absorb the spill and clean the area with mild detergent and water.
  4. Avoid Abrasive Cleaners: Avoid using abrasive cleaners or scrubbing pads as they can scratch the epoxy surface. Opt for gentle cleaning solutions instead.
  5. Protect from Heavy Objects: Use furniture pads or mats under heavy objects to prevent scratching or denting the epoxy floor.
  6. Avoid Sharp Objects: Avoid dragging sharp or heavy objects across the floor as they can cause damage to the epoxy coating.
  7. Regular Maintenance: Inspect the floor regularly for any signs of wear or damage. Touch up any chips or scratches promptly to prevent further damage.
  8. Use Mats: Place mats at entryways to trap dirt and moisture before it reaches the epoxy floor. This helps to protect the surface and reduce maintenance.
  9. Avoid Excessive Water: While epoxy floors are water-resistant, excessive water exposure can cause damage over time. Wipe up excess water promptly and avoid prolonged exposure to standing water.
  10. Professional Maintenance: Consider professional maintenance services periodically to deep clean and reseal the epoxy floor, ensuring its longevity and durability.
